The Balanced Yogi

With every practice yoga humbles you, yet makes you stronger.

The winter of 2013/2014 I made it my mission to learn how to do a forearm balance. But I found out that there is always something new to strive for.

Now as of the winter 2014/2015 I believe I am truly starting my own yoga practice. Instead of trying poses, I find myself working through sun salutations nearly every single day.

It just shows you that with a little dedication and consistency you really can achieve anything you dedicate your attention to! It also shows you that trusting in the process can give you more than you even dreamed of.

What surprised me was how much yoga changed me. It is not just something "to do" anymore. I now know yoga cannot be a goal in itself; the asanas (poses) I so desperately wanted to achieve were only what got me interested. Yoga is the entire practice that brings peace, happiness, relaxation, perseverance, and joy.

Tips to making yoga a larger part of your world:

  1. Join a community. Become a member at a yoga studio, gym, or somewhere that offers yoga classes
  2. Social media. As silly as it may sound, follow yogis on Instagram to get inspired! There are many tutorials on how to do basic poses, and there are also weekly and daily challenges for all levels.
  3. Practice on your own.  It may be hard at first, but there are so many resources to help you through any challenge like youtube videos, blogs, and magazines. Check out: The Yoga JournalMind Body Green, and Two Fit Moms for some great tools and tips.
